Sam Farr's blog: It isn't "Congress" that's keeping the war going

If there's one group that gets jabbed more than politicians, it's the
press. And while I sometimes disagree with criticisms of the media,
there's one habit that always rubs me the wrong way: writing about
Congress as a cohesive group.

A typical headline might look something like this: "Congress blocks
action on Iraq." But take a stab at accuracy and you'd actually have
something a bit more like this: "Republicans foil Congressional action."

Since the Democrats took power in January, we have done everything
voters asked for and more. When bills come to the floor of the House and
the Senate, we see delaying tactics and misinformation from the GOP. All
the while, the White House lobs threat after threat in our direction.

If blame must be placed, let's make sure we direct it toward the correct
group. The GOP has frustrated all efforts to bring our soldiers home.
But Democrats will continue trying to end this war. We hear the anger
from our constituents and share in it, and will use that anger to ramp
up our efforts even more.
